 Bath Rugby’s most high profile signing of the summer is Butch James. The South African international fly-half will link-up with the club post World Cup. Renowned for his accurate goal-kicking, visionary distribution and ferocious defence, James is considered not only an energetic, but inspirational team player, and is set to be an invaluable asset to this season’s squad. Much has been made about his potential half-back partnership with countryman (and fellow new signing) Michael Claassens helping take the club to headier heights than in recent years. While that remains to be seen, his competition with Olly Barkley for a starting berth at fly-half will increase both players competitive edge and no doubt benefit the team, especially if pressure on Barkley to play 10 is relieved and he can play more regularly in his preferred position of inside centre.
