| Newcastle Falcons will play in a special charity kit in aid of the Wooden Spoon Society on Saturday November 3, when they host Newport Gwent Dragons in the EDF Energy Cup. |
The entire Falcons team will play in the colours of the Wooden Spoon – blue, white, green and red – in the televised clash, with £5 from every shirt sold going to the rugby charity.
Falcons commercial director, Mick Hogan, said: “The shirt is just one of a number of ways that the club is working with the Northumberland branch of the Wooden Spoon over the course of the season,
“The Wooden Spoon is rugby’s own charity, conducting a whole host of fantastic work across the UK. The Northumberland branch has been particularly active in the recent past donating over £400,000 to good causes in the area, including disability buses for schools in Alnwick and Hexham, play areas at schools in Wallsend, Berwick and Morpeth as well as making every rugby club in the county accessible to disabled people.”
In addition to the Falcons first team playing in the special kit, the November 3 match also sees the Wooden Spoon conduct a bucket collection in the stadium as well as a host of promotional and fundraising events throughout the calendar.
The special shirts are available from November 1, priced £55 for the adult replica and £75 for the adult match authentic version.
Money raised from the shirts will go towards the Wooden Spoon’s local project at Beacon Hill School in Wallsend.
John Pearce, of the Wooden Spoon Society Northumberland Branch, said: “The school will be fitted with a trampoline room, hoist and all other safety facilities, allowing the students to benefit from rebound therapy sessions which help to develop their movement and communication skills.
“The total cost we are funding is £35,000, part of which has already been raised from other events, but sales from the Falcons shirts will make a significant contribution to this worthwhile project.”
Tickets for the EDF Energy Cup game against Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons are priced only £10 for adults in all areas of the ground, with concessions at £7 and juniors just £5.
