London Wasps Director of Rugby Ian McGeechan has been named Guinness Premiership Director of Rugby of the Month for March and Harlequins' Danny Care has won the Guinness Premiership Player of the Month award.
As part of their awards they will each be given the opportunity to select a school in their local area to receive free kit from Gilbert Rugby. For every award this season the winner in each category has been given the opportunity to nominate a school to receive a full set of rugby kit from Official Ball Supplier to the Guinness Premiership, Gilbert Rugby.

Under the guidance of McGeechan, London Wasps have won all three of their Guinness Premiership matches in March, including their first ever win over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

Those wins have taken them to within touching distance of the leading pack as they aim to qualify for the Guinness Premiership semi final.

March has been a good month for McGeechan’s colleague Shaun Edwards. As well as playing his part in London Wasps’ excellent domestic form, he was also part of the Welsh Grand Slam winning team.

Once again special mention was given to Dean Richards who has guided Harlequins to three wins from their four Guinness Premiership matches in March, lifting them to third in the table. Their only defeat in March came at Adams Park in round 15.

Harlequins’ efforts have been recognised by the award of Guinness Premiership Player of the Month to scrum half Danny Care.

The former Leeds man has grown in stature over the course of this season and seems to have established himself as Quins’ first choice scrum half in preference to World Cup Finalist Andy Gomarsall.

Care has played ten matches in the Guinness Premiership this season and scored his first try of the season against Bath Rugby in round 16.

Harlequins coach Dean Richards has tipped Care to add a senior cap to those gained at Under-21, Under-20 and Under-19 level on this year’s England tour to New Zealand.

The Guinness Premiership monthly awards are selected by a different group of rugby journalists each month.
