Bath Rugby has received a timely boost ahead of the pre-season with the signature of highly-rated Australian flanker Julian Salvi on a one year deal.
The 23-year-old will join the West Country side from CA Brumbies where he was the first Brumbies player to be contracted directly from school in 2004.

Having represented the Australian Under 21s in 2005 and 2006, captaining the side in 2006, as well as leading the Australian Schools in 2003, Salvi went on to make a notable impact during the 2008 Investec Super 14. The robust and versatile back rower demonstrated his try-scoring abilities crossing the line for three tries, two of which in consecutive weeks against the Hurricanes and Waratahs.

His reputation as a mature and respected player will inevitably aid with his development and progression at Bath Rugby, who are now determined to move from strength-to-strength on and off the field.

"I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in my rugby career," admitted Salvi. "And, where better than in England and with Bath Rugby. It is a strong club, with a proud history doing exciting things and I really want to become a part of that."

The 6ft 1in youngster from Canberra has the option to extend his contract for a further year with Bath, but in the mean time, head coach Steve Meehan is looking forward to welcoming the fellow Australian with the belief that he will make an excellent impact at The Rec, not least with his ability to play in any of the back three positions.

"At only 23, Julian arrives with considerable leadership experience. He is very professional in his approach and he will arrive very fit.

"Once he knows, plays and calls his style of play, it will make it very easy for him to slip into Bath Rugby. I am looking forward to watching Julian play alongside his new teammates and in front of his new supporters at the Rec. I am sure that he will help the team to continue in its development and desire to win trophies."
