London Wasps are delighted to announce that their Guinness Premiership Round 21 fixture against Bath on the 24th April 2010, KO 5.30pm, is moving to the home of English Rugby in honour of St George's Day.
This fixture will become one of the biggest occasions in the Wasps calendar as the Club look to combine the pride in their game with that of their country; marking St George's Day with an annual celebratory fixture on the weekend closest to St George's Day on the 23rd April.
There is a fantastic fit between Wasps, a Club who has produced a wealth of English talent, to the day that celebrates England - strengthened further by agreeing a three year deal with the RFU to host this game at Twickenham. This sets this fixture up as a great opportunity for Wasps and wider rugby fans to celebrate the sport and St George's Day.
Through Wasps official charity, the Dallaglio Foundation, the St George's Day Game will raise money for Help for Heroes, an organisation that supports service personal injured in combat. This is a charity which has seen a great link forged with sport, particularly rugby, and Wasps are delighted that their own sporting heroes can, along with their supporters, contribute to such a fantastic and valuable cause.
The Club will donate a minimum of £1 per ticket to Help for Heroes plus a percentage of the revenue of the event, and with an ambition to sell out the 82,000 capacity stadium, Wasps are determined to contribute a six figure sum to this fantastic charitable fund.
On the announcement of the St George's Day Game, London Wasps Owner Steve Hayes said, "From an early age I have always been a strong patriot and I believe everyone should be an ambassador for their country. Sport for me shows passion in identity, especially our national identity, and therefore I am delighted that London Wasps will take hold of and develop this St George's Day fixture - something that is unique but that has a great fit and perfect place in rugby.
"For this game we have also, through our official charity the Dallaglio Foundation, made the decision to raise money for Help for Heroes - the hugely humbling organisation that supports armed forces servicemen and woman injured in combat. To me this charity links directly to St George's Day through the pride people show to those who give their lives in the service of our country and I am extremely proud that Wasps and our supporters will be able to help support an initiative like Help for Heroes through this game.
"It is important that our supporters know that it is not our ambition to follow the trend of moving game after game to bigger venues. Adams Park is our home and given our record to date I know that our fans and players enjoy the matchday here. This move to Twickenham is about finding that perfect fit and that perfect venue for the celebration of St George's Day - this is a special occasion and I want our supporters to enjoy that variety and excitement."
